5th Meeting of China-Argentina Subcommittee on Fisheries held in Beijing

The 5th Meeting of China-Argentina Subcommittee on Fisheries was held in Beijing on Nov. 3, 2014.

 

The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Zhao Xingwu, Director-General of MOA Bureau of Fisheries, and Mr. Néstor Miguel Bustamante, Undersecretary of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Argentina. The two sides signed the Minutes at the end of the meeting.

 

At the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation in fisheries. The Chinese side raised the problems faced by Chinese fishing vessels in getting access to Argentine waters, such as complicated procedures and higher fee. In response, the Argentine side pledged to coordinate relevant agencies to streamline the approval process verify the existing tax rate and fee for fishing vessel registration, and strive to finalize relevant procedures before the fishing season in 2015. 

 

The two sides agreed to explore other options for access to fishing in Argentine waters so as to attract more Chinese fishing vessels to conduct catching operation. The Argentine side promised to make a proposal to the Federal Fisheries Council (CFP) to work out relevant standards concerning fishing permit.

 

Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in aquaculture and fishery S&T, and to hold the second training course for Argentine technicians in the spring of 2015. The two sides also exchanged views on standards and tariffs on aquatic products to be exported to China.

Mr. Cui Lifeng, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau of Fisheries, Mr. Zhang Xianliang, President of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, officials from the Department of International Cooperation, and representatives from the Chinese Overseas Fisheries Association and fishing enterprises with access to Argentine waters also attended the meeting.
